Management & Consultancy Experience
1. As National Volunteer Manager between1998 and 2003, for Shelter, I had strategic responsibility for directing and implementing policies, practices and procedures relating to our volunteer recruitment, recognition, retention, training, management, support, accreditation and evaluation, and for the services (internal or external) delivered by volunteers. I oversaw our national volunteer training programme , managed 4 staff and had overall responsibility for a budget of approx £150,000 p.a. The programme was phased over three years, and had specific, measurable, time limited aims. It consistently achieved its targets.
2. Three year contract for the Volunteer Centre Waltham Forest as Web Developer & Management Standards Consultant. In this capacity I helped the Centre gain VE accreditation, and provided advice and support to local Volunteer Involving Organisations (VIOs) around standards of volunteer management and the ‘Investing in Volunteers’ (IiV) programme. I instituted and co-ordinated the Waltham Forest Volunteer Support Forum.
I designed, implemented & maintainied the company website. I also provided IT Support Services & help desk facilities to the Centre’s eight staff & to external voluntary organisations. The website had a Content Management System (CMS), and membership database. Internal & external IT support involve installing workstations and networks, troubleshooting software & hardware related issues and providing training on a range of applications such as Word, Excel, Access, Freeway and Photoshop, as well as CMS training.
3. Other Consultancies.
18 months as a consultant to the National Chidbirth Trust in 2004/5. This involved reviewing and updating the training materials available to the 7000 NCT volunteers, and making this available as a resource via a website.
In 2003/4 I carried out a consultancy exercise for Haringey Sure Start looking at how they could recruit and involve volunteers.
